Thom Law is located in Dunedin and offers a full range of legal services, specialising in employment and business services.  The firm enjoys an excellent New Zealand-wide reputation in both contentious and advisory matters.  We combine outstanding academic credentials with the practical experience of seasoned legal professionals.

Principal Brenda Thom, a Dunedin local, graduated from Otago University with degrees in Law and Economics in 1994.  She has been practising law for more than 20 years in New Zealand, the UK, the US and Canada in both private practice and in-house counsel capacities.  Brenda worked overseas for FTSE100 company Centrica plc as a key member of their senior management team, returning home to New Zealand to raise her family in 2008.  On her return to Dunedin she worked as an Associate at Webb Farry, prior to starting her own practice.

“I have engaged Brenda’s services in the past in my capacity as an in-house lawyer in New Zealand.  My own experience of employment law is that it can be difficult and uncertain territory to navigate, particularly with the emotions that often come into play in employer/employee disputes.  Brenda is very knowledgeable on the relevant legislation and case-law, and always brings a calm, clear-headed and pragmatic approach.  She also understands the importance of being on-call for her clients given that issues don’t always arise and play-out during normal business hours.  Having also worked alongside Brenda in the past and getting to know her over the years, I can highly recommend her employment law and in- house advisory services to others.”

“During a difficult and stressful employment situation this year I employed Brenda Thom as my advocate.  At each meeting Brenda was a calm and steady influence in the proceedings, acting with a strong knowledge of the law, together with a sense of fairness. Brenda is a woman of integrity and I didn’t hesitate to take her advice as to how to resolve the situation.  I would recommend her to both employers and employees and be sure that either would reach a satisfactory conclusion.”
